{{Infobox game | name = Sonic Origins | developer = SEGA | publisher = SEGA | release_date = June 23, 2022 | engine = [[Retro Engine]], [[Hedgehog Engine 2]] }} '''Sonic Origins''' is a collection of remastered Sonic games from the Genesis/Mega Drive library, released on June 23rd, 2022. While all the remastered games use the Retro Engine, the 3D menu islands use Hedgehog Engine 2; specifically a branch based on Frontiers (leftovers of Frontiers were found in the files of Origins, alongside a full texture set for Modern Tails from Generations... for some reason). == Sonic Origins Plus == Sonic Origins Plus is an enhanced rerelease of Sonic Origins, ala Sonic Mania Plus, released on June 23rd, 2023. It contains all the DLC originally released as separate purchases (as DLC codes and not on the physical media itself for... some reason) alongside adding Amy and Knuckles to the 3D menu islands. The two were ripped near-piecemeal from the then-upcoming Sonic Superstars, much to the chagrin of the person who modeled them. Twelve SEGA Game Gear titles were also included with the package, bringing up the total game count to 16; nice! == Modding Pointers == With the menus being based on Frontiers, the file formats used are identical; .pxd files are used for the animations and skeletons, .model files are used for the 3D models themselves. The biggest difference between modding most Sonic games and Origins is the use of encrypted CriWare assets. Any new assets to be modded into the game must be encrypted in order to function within Sonic Origins. This is particularly notable for the music and sound effects of the remastered games, as they also use ACBs and AWBs like all Sonic games following Lost World. === Resource references ===
